Bad mommy

I've been neglecting my family to knit this week. Poor Liam asked for a story Saturday night and I kept putting him off, saying, I just need to knit a few more rows honey. He did eventually get his story at bedtime. I finally took yesterday off from knitting to take the kiddos to Santa Fe to see Curious George, which we all loved.
I wish I could stay away from the computer and just knit. I'm now obsessed with a new project before I've even finished this one - Hourglass Sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I've been pricing Noro's Cash Iroha online, and googling everyone else's pics of their sweaters. I'm not as thrilled with clapotis as the rest of the world seems to be. I'm a little bored with the pattern, my yarn is beautiful, but a PITA to drop stitches, and I think it will end up being heavier than I'd like. If I do another, it will be in something much less hairy (ie, no mohair) and perhaps a laceweight yarn.
No pics yet - there's not a single clean surface left in the house!

Of frogs and merlot

I've gotten nothing at all done on clappy in the past 2 days. In fact, I'm even less far along because I had to frog a few rows tonight. Sat down to knit after the big birthday dinner for my boys, with 2, maybe 3 glasses of merlot on board, and oops, dropped a stitch right at the beginning of the row. Dropped somewhere amidst the yo's or pfbs and there was no way I was going to get it figured out, so I frogged 2 rows. It looks decent again, but no more knitting for me tonight.
It was Mahlon and Liam's birthday yesterday. We celebrated today because Mahlon worked yesterday. Liam is the big 5, and he is now manic on too much Hot Wheels birthday cake and plastic toys. We are inundated with airplanes, little teeny cars with even teenier road signs, and still more Thomas trains. I feel like major Bad Mommy - no kid party for my son's 5th birthday, but he seemed to be happy with just us and our friend Paul.
Got thru run 2 of Week 5 in the Cool Running's Couch to 5K that I've been doing! Felt great, even tacked on an extra 4 minutes of running. Wednesday's run is a solid 20 minutes tho' with no walking and I'm petrified.

clapotis day 1.5

Originally uploaded by pgerling.

I've made it thru' 3 repeats in the increase section. Last night reminded me of why this is an Olympic endeavor - I tried to knit amidst kiddos shreiking, leaping over me, and asking for juice/milk/snacks every 2 minutes, and, oh yes, trying to watch the Olympics at the same time. I did have to tink a few rows when I ended up with the wrong stitch counts, but at least I didn't have to frog the whole thing.

Ready, Set, Knit!

Ready, Set, Knit!

The pattern and spreadsheet are copied, the ball of yarn wound. Note the stitch markers in the corner - Ciara's "ponynail" holders which I find make handy markers. Merlot and chocolate are at hand. I confess, the chocolate has been opened already - too many opening day jitters. I was going to wait for the formality of the Opening Ceremony broadcast tonight to cast on. However, if I intend to make any progress today, I better cast on while the hellions are asleep. Don't worry, I'm legal - it's 4 pm MST here and the Torino torch was lit several hours ago!

Finally, my own blog!

Ahhh, another way to waste time online, valuable time when I could otherwise be knitting, cleaning my house, spending quality family time, or even working for a living! Today is a momentous day - not only the start of my blog, but in a mere 100 minutes, time to cast on for the 2006 Knitting Olympics. I'm doing clapotis in Brooks Farm Duet, a luscious kid mohair/wool blend, that is unfortunately 2-stranded and may just drive me nuts. I will figure out how to post pics later this weekend, as long as it doesn't take too much valuable time away from knitting!
